Steve's Innovations Page for Second Life

Steve Says:

Here is a page to add interesting new tools for Second Life. You will have to have the capability to turn on the "Build' button (bottom of your screen right in the center.) OK - so I know that this is probably easier said than done, so, for those of you having a hassle getting the build button to even turn on, here is a friendly area where you can create stuff:

Scratch for Second Life:

First off: here is a link to the "Scratch 4 Second Life" tool I talked about at the meeting on Friday, October 24th, 2008:  With S4SL, you can snap together a few blocks to make your SL pet interact with you using chat commands, make your sculpture change size and color, or make your house respond to your presence.

There are some instructions on the MIT site (Scratch for Second Life) which may be a little convoluted... Where it talks about a "hat" object... it is really talking about a control object (top right of the script types box), so you can start off with "when I am touched,"  then add a "looks" object (funny - looks includes using your mouth...!) "say "Hello"" - next, more "looks" object(s) perhaps: "change ghost effect by 10"  - finally, let's use the "sound" object: "play sound clang" (Notice that the scripts take pre-arranged variables.) So you see, it's playing with variables around simple script classifications and it doesn't take much more than point and click programming.

This I think is huge for education... You are going to be able to use all of this to build simple objects that actually do things...

Here is what MIT suggests you make with S4SL:

Here are some ideas I had for educational things:

Let me know how you all get on with this...

Three Green Eggs Autoscript:

This site,, will help you create scripts for your Second Life objects. These scripts allow you to add interactive elements to your builds without knowing how to code. All of the script are released under a creative commons license, which means that you can use them freely!
